Clay Classes
Eden Prairie Art Center
Clay Pots without a Wheel
Create functional pottery without using a potter’s wheel in this beginning clay class. Learn traditional handbuilding techniques of coiling, slabs, and pinching to make cups, bowls, vases, and more. Class time includes project demonstrations and slide presentations for inspiration. Students have plenty of time to practice techniques and receive individual attention. We explore basic decorating and glazing methods to enhance your pottery. Project ideas are available in class – or bring your own. Clay and basic tool kits are available for purchase from the Art Center. Seven classes.
Saturday mornings:
January 21 - March 3; 9:30am-12:30pm
Cost: $112 ($103 Members)
Basic Clay Sculpture
Express yourself with clay! In this beginning sculpture class, have fun as we learn handbuilding techniques and how to use simple molds to create fun and expressive sculpture. Make stamps and explore other decorating techniques and basic glazing methods to add the finishing touch to your sculpture. Slide presentations provide inspiration. Bring your own sculpture ideas or try the projects available in class. Low temperature earthenware or stoneware will be used. Clay and basic tool kits are available for purchase from the art center. Seven classes.
Monday evenings:
January 23 - March 5; 6:30-9:30pm
Cost: $112 ($103 Members)
Valentine Gift Box
Slip a small treasure into a lidded gift box that you create in this one session workshop. After a presentation and project demo, students use basic handbuilding techniques to create a small gift box and decorate it with underglazes. After the projects are fired, they will be ready to pick up in one week. Clay, glazes, and firing costs are included in the class fee.
Sunday:
January 29; 1-4pm
Cost: $42 ($38 Members)
A Pair of Goblets
Sip from your own goblets created in this two-session workshop. During the first week, view slides for inspiration and following a project demonstration, students will use basic handbuilding techniques to create a pair of goblets from stoneware clay. The second week, use glazes to finish your work. Goblets are ready to pick up the following week. Clay, glazes, and firing costs are included in the class fee.
Sundays:
February 5-12; 1-4pm
